The window in the Monitor Control Panel with the "1" indicates only that you are looking at screen 1. The Monitor Control Panel among other uses is used to setup multiple monitors. The screen with the "1" is the screen that will display the Apple menu bar. If you do not have another monitor attached you will not be able to move the window with the "1" to another screen, so it should cause you no problems.

Trackpad controls are located the Trackpad Control Panel. It will be located in the Control Panel folder inside the System Folder, which should be located at the top level of the harddrive. You can use the Trackpad control panel to set the speed the cursor moves.
