Hello,

I have acquired a IIci with the above, and the hard drive keeps getting corrupted. when I remove the 040, no more problems.

I have searched the net, and can find no answer to this. does anyone remember if this was an issue back when it was first introduced?

Thanks

no issues that i have ever heard of.   The ci was a rock solid machine.  I am wandering if your memory is not fast enough for the upgrade.

We need wove to Help with this one

I remember there are some RAM on the 040 Daystar upgrade card.  Is that only for Cache ?  Not for main RAM, right ?

I'll have to check the speed of the ram in it, thanks for the lead. The ram on the '040 (128k) is a cache that is supposed to allow the card to run at full speed on the ci. Not sure how system ram affects things though. At least it is somewhere to start.

Hardware corruption of the hard drive in this case would seem to be related to either the upgrade card or to the port it is plugged into. I am not familiar with the Turbo 040 upgrade, but as I recall it enjoyed and excellent reputation when in production and is still considered a good  upgrade card.

It is more common to find hard drive corruption caused by software problems. You might wish to check into possible conflicts between the upgrade control panel and other extensions you have installed. You might also check to make sure the version of the upgrade control panel you are using is the appropriate one for the OS you are using.
