I'm looking to acquire a set of four 16 megabyte 30 pin SIMMs for a Quadra 700. I don't want to spend a lot of money on these SIMMs, so I'm looking for a reasonable price. If you have some SIMMs that you're looking to sell please leave a message here or send me a private message with the pertinent details. Likewise, if you happen to know of someone that has 16 megabyte SIMMs available for sale please leave a link or contact information either here or through a private message. |

Recetly I saw an article on www.lowendmac.com where a user commented on finding some hard to find memory for his Mac IIfx (or some other very old Mac). He found it at some Mac store that specializes in this kind of stuff. Check out Low End Mac and see if you find the name of the store, as they might have the type of ram you're looking for. If you don't find it, let me know. Bomfim

I was doing that when I was looking for SIMMs for my old Quadra 950. The place I go to had a big box full of SIMMs. I ended up buying somewhere between... Conservative guess... 200 and 300 SIMMs... All but ten or so of them were 256KB or 1MB SIMMs. There were a small handful of 4MB SIMMs. That's it. Never managed to get my hands on even one 16MB SIMM. Pity.

If you don't find it, let me know. I haven't seen the article you're referring to, but I have seen some prices from the places that specialize in this kind of stuff. Outrageous are the prices I have seen. I mean, $20 for one 30 pin 16 megabyte SIMM? I don't think so. I've seen places trying to sell a set of four for $150!!! Plus tax and shipping!! I think I'll probably end up just buying a maxxed out machine for $20 or $30 instead. It's a lot cheaper to buy the machine with the memory already in it than it is to buy the memory to put in the machine. Gawd, I hate the pricks that part everything out in an effort to milk their old machines for every last penny. As an aside, I was looking for an Asantefast ethernet card for my Quadra too. I found two on ebay. One that I bidded on and didn't get an opportunity to raise my bid before the auction closed, sold for $2.25. The other one was listed by some crackhead in Ottawa. He's trying to sell it for $150. USED! Plus taxes and shipping! I offered the guy $10 plus shipping for it... He declined the offer! I'm not going to pay an outrageous price for a piece of hardware that is relatively common and lacking demand. If the guy in Ottawa thinks he's going to find someone stupid enough to pay $150 for a used ethernet card, he's nuts. By the way, I found another one on ebay yesterday... The bidding on this card is right now at $1.00! These things aren't worth more than $10. And judging by the fact that there has been three listed on ebay in the last week, they're hardly rare. And the fact that they're selling for less than $3.00 each means that there's little to no demand for them. So if the guy in Ottawa is reading this... You know where your head is stuck... And you know what you gotta do to get it out of that dark stinky cavern.

I found the place that was mentioned on Lowendmac, but the prices aren't any better than what you found. Here's the link anyway: http://www.yourmacstore.com/shop/shopexd.asp?id=13

Thanks for the link. The prices are a bit better than the sites I was looking at. $60 for a set of four is better than $80 to $150 for a set of four. Private sales on ebay have a set of four for about $30. That's about reasonable in my opinion.
