I have a performa 6200cd with 64mb RAM, and a 20gb HD. OS 7.6.1. Just wondering, what tips would you suggest to make this machine faster other than just removing unnecessary extensions and control panels? Well thanks a ton! |

Well, be sure to download and install all these files, as well as read any associated "notes" pages: http://main.system7today.com/updates/76x_powerpc.html Unfortunately, the 6200 is part of a family of Macs that is pretty much considered the worst Macs ever made. You can learn more about their issues here: http://lowendmac.com/tech/x200.shtml

It's still a usable system. Slow compared to many. It was my first mac and I wrote several books, learned aboot photoshop, (24mb ram and it never had any troubles) works best under 7.6.1. Even better when I maxed out the ram and put all of the recomended updates from this site. Not a speed machine by any means and I would take it over any pc of the time, then or now. Just follow the guides on this site and you will have a good machine.
