Hey,
I have been looking into connecting my power mac (running 7.6.1) to my windows network.  A lot of websites are recommending "Double Talk". I was wondering two things:

1. Is this the best one to use?

2. Connectix has gone out of business.... where can I download this!???

Thanks!

Connectix is the same company that made Virtual PC which is now marketed by Microsoft. I do not know all the details of how Microsoft acquired VPC, whether they only bought VPC or whether they bought all of Connectix assets, but if they did buy them out in their entirety, you likely won't find the program you are looking for just floating around out there for free since it would still be copyrighted.

Microsoft bought Virtual PC, not Connectix.  Connectix actually continued to exist for a short while after the loss of VPC.

I am not familiar with Double Talk. Dave from Thursby is another cross platform networking application for the Mac. For a time Thursby was giving away Dave. I do not know what version they were providing and whether or not it was compatible with System 7, but it might be worth hunting for as well.

No clue where you can find an older copy but I can speak to how well DAVE worked, I used it under Mac OS 8.x and 9.x as well as 10.0.x and 10.1.x before SMB support was added – worked great.

DAVE was not "old hat" in the Mac OS 8 days so I am not sure if Thursby ever supported a version under System 7.

Thursby's website

Thursby's support e-mail is just support@thursby.com

I tried some time ago that the network is win 2000 server with 4 PC connected and some folders in the server have been shared for Mac user. My PPC 9600 (OS7.6.1 & OS9.1) can access the server to use the folder very freely.  No need to install software.  But after moving home, the network no longer used.
Recently, I installed Netpresenz in PPC9600 and let the PC to copy & save files in my PPC9600.

Download:

DAVE 2.5.2 asks for a registration code after installation. So no fun if one do not have it.
