I have several old macs and although non of the machines have been expensive, when counting all of them + a big cabinet full of parts & all the upgrading and software I have, in the end I could have bought a new pc system too. So sometimes there have been moments of doubt, of the road I have chosen in computing. (Oh boy, wouldn't a brand new shining pc be nice! From a big nice shining store!) Practically all my windows experiencies are with VPC 3 & 4 (with 98se currently), but I was at a friends place today, and used a windows pc. I used it a little to google and for some other stuff, not needing much computing power, but it was really sloooow. It even started slow. They can not really maintain the machine properly, but not long ago I had a similar experience with a XP pc which was maintained by a computer dept, so althought my macs are nowadays (all the years for software/hardware testing and learning stuff have not gone to waste) very well kept, the difference of speed can not only come from that. Seeing that a mac with 350 g3 can run circles around a 2GHz/3GHz pc does make me smile. And wonder. There will be a day in the future when it is not possible to run old macs anymore, but until then I will enjoy of the experience of it! |

I agree I spend all day forced to run my xp laptop it takes 3 min to boot up in the morning and about as long to shut down. Our it dept "eric" gives me a hard time about my macs but is helpful up on occasion with network issues. Last month he admitted his wife was going to our side and buying an intel mac due to how great os 10 was compared to windows. microsoft may have help apple more than we know with vista. at least i cam come home and enjoy my computing experence michael
