Hello All
I am running a Quadra 605 on System 7.5.5 and recently purchased a NIB Apple LC PDS III ethernet card. installation was fine, the green indicator light is on, and I have it hooked up to a NetGear router. the number of the ethernet-jack slot on the router corresponding to the Quadra is orange, not the usual green of other working computers' internet.
I installed the "Apple Network Software Installer" disk, included with the card, and it said installation went successfully but when I go to...
  Control Panels>Network
there is no EtherTalk icon to choose, like the Apple user's guide says. Any ideas?

Right off hand I do not know how one selects the Network port to use when working in the Classic Network environment.

The Network Control Panel is part of Apple's "Classic Networking". If you have the ability or the option you should try and use Apple's newer networking software called "OpenTransport."

Sound advice. I've never been able to get a proper Internet connection without using OpenTransport, anyway.

An easy way for you get hooked up to your Netgear router is to upgrade to system 7.6.1. I have 7.5.5 and 7.6.1 on my Quadra 650 and use the app System Picker to choose which OS to boot into. I find 7.5.5 works best for the music apps I use, but if I need to surf the web or download something, I restart in 7.6.1. I can use the music apps in 7.6.1, but it feels a little slower.

To connect to the internet with 7.6.1, go to the TCP/IP control panel and put it DCHP server and restart and it should be good to go.
