Hey, I'm trying to get online using my Macintosh LC. It's running 7.1, and I have an external Dial-Up modem connected to it. The computer will dial and connect to my ISP using PPP, but no internet applications can 'find' the connection. The Config PPP control panel says 'PPP Up' and using Zterm I can clearly see I am connected, but AIM and my browsers cannot use the connection. Any help? |

You also need to make sure that TCP/IP networking is set up to be using the PPP connection that you have established. 7.1 can use opentransport networking, but it is not part of the system and has to be installed separately. Typically when running 7.1 you would be using the Classic Mac networking, which includes the MacTCP and Networking Control panels. If your system has MacTCP and Networking in the system control panel folder you need to open MacTCP and select use ppp in ordered to access the internet through your PPP connection. bill

Got it. After 3 months of crap:-p I had to set up the archaic TCP preferences panel.
