I have a problem that I need help with. I bought a 2400c without a floppy drive and I can't get anything onto or off from the computer. I would prefer a floppy drive. I would like an original style but is there another kind that would work with that computer? |

I can't speak to the floppy drive issue, but I just had to deal with a similar problem with my 1400, and I was able to transfer files between it an my iMac using a compact flash card. My printer has CF reader and I picked up a PCMCIA CF adapter card for like 10 bucks somewhere. I've had a few hiccups, but all-in-all it's worked out, and it can transfer a lot more than a floppy. Also Dan has some good info on the site about burning CDs that can be read by the System 7 OS, so if you can burn CDs, and have a SCSI port (the 2400 does, right?), then that may be something to look into. I'm finding that 10 years down the road, a lot of my floppies are failing, and my most reliable software loads are coming from CD. And with the 1400 I'm seeing drives for sale on ebay most of the time, so that might be worth checking out, but someone who has your model can probably speak better to your specific hardware.

Thanks for the reminder, I have a 1400c and do use compact flash to move data at times with that and completely forgot that with the 2400c. That will allow me to print from my TiBook but I wanted to floppy so I could use it with my PB180 and my 7600/300.

It's nice to have a floppy drive for boot purposes, but your use of the flash memory cards is more efficient due to most file sizes. With respect to your other machines, don't forget about networking and SCSI Mode.

I know with the 1400 if you have the old floppy module, you can replace the floppy mechanism for cheap, can the same be done with the 2400?

External floppy only on the 2400c and it uses a unique cable. Another workaround is a USB floppy drive, but the 2400c must be USB enabled(if possible for the particular machine) and then you have to buy the USB PC card. Cost/benefit goes downhill fast. ;-) Quote from: "sierraredd" I know with the 1400 if you have the old floppy module, you can replace the floppy mechanism for cheap, can the same be done with the 2400?

You can buy a Lucent WaveLan Silver card on eBay for $15 (like I did, with 64bit encryption, or Gold w/128 for a bit more). Then, with a bit of struggling (a Lot!) and hunting all around for driver that works, you will have a wireless PB 1400. How much struggle depends on what system you are running, as drivers for 7.6-8.1 are pretty "primitive". Good luck!

The drivers for System 7 are located here. They work fine you just have to know your network's SSID.

Hi I use a Memory Stick I found for super cheap and a PCMCIA adapter to move data from my PB 2400c and my PowerBook 1400c. Easy and cheap! And if I need to move things from my OS X machine, an inexpensive USB flash reader is an easy solution.
