in my extensions folder I have ethernet nb, ethernet, and ethernet phase2 are all three required. i disabled the first 2and everything seems to work |

Typically extensions are ignored if they are not needed. Leaving unneeded extensions in your extension folder wastes hard drive space, but most often has no impact on the operation of the system. The three extensions you list above all serve different purposes and so do not conflict with each other and should cause no problems being left in your exension folder. The "Extension Manager" Control Panel lists the package that installed the exensions, and often provides a clue as to why a certain extension is present. Installing software driver packages often adds extensions and control panels to the system folder. And often unistallers for the packages will not remove items from the system folder. After I have done a system install I use the label function of the finder to give a color to all the items in the folders in the system that have been installed. That way at a quick glance I tell which files are newly installed for they are a different color. In the same manner the Extension Manager has a set labeled "Base" and "All" which will help identify items that essential to your smooth operation. bill
