Didn't want to step on anyone's toes over there, so I'm posting this questions here: I can see that the webpage for my find Account Buddy is alive again. So, did the author give up on his fantastic plans to resurrect 20+ year old code or did fogWrath just have one of his more generous moments? Btw. still think that app is just gorgeous. |

@68040: That page is still unavailable to everyone, except for MG admins - and yourself ![]() Reason. When for various reasons, a page becomes unpublished; It doesn't vanish from the MG, it is simply unavailable to the general public, except for admins and to the person who created the page. In this instance, yourself, as you had created that page, you can also access that page. Clicking the above link, if not a logged-in MG admin (or yourself not logged-in) will get an access denied page, instead.

That is such a shame. You do realize the absolute superiority of that application's UI interface, specially for software from that era, don't you? I tried to contact the author, but the e-mail address I retrieved for him from the web archive turned out to be no longer valid. This is 1 of those rare cases where I am tempted to question the author's right to let his software just die out with him. This tool shows you what was possible even way back when many software coders were still grappling with the arrival of more than just 256 colors on their screens.

It is indeed a pity when authors are so stubbornly clinging onto old software they don't care about, but can't let go either. This sounds interesting, I need to give the software a go.

Its not as ez to setup as your usual run-of-the-mill account store. Its approach is absolutely object oriented. You first have to setup your categories, service providers and various other lists. Then you specify your actual account object and draw the info from all those lists and attach them like object specific details under C++. The real magic comes into play, when you link the URL or even the program app directly to the account or file object. Together with the info window this allows you to literally manage hundreds of accounts w/o ever losing oversight. You can launch the web window or the application directly from within Account Buddy and then copy & paste your logon info via the clipboard. Just like any modern day KeePass. It comes with comments fields, multiple user name/pwd combo and so on and so on. Except for plugins it could compete with most modern day account manager apps - alas for the vintage OS platform required to run the app.

The author was/is originally from Slovakia. He started his outfit there. Not sure where is located now, though.
