This link requires a modern browser, but the video compares SCSI hard disk through put using different formatting tools focusing primarily on newer SCSI drive replacements for Vintage Macs.

Might be worth a watch if you are using a BlueSCSI or such. As a spoiler the results indicated that FWB toolkit's formatting utility did the best, typically providing a 10-15% increase in performance on all drives the vintage drives as well as their new replacements.

@WOVE
Oh man, thanks for this! Plus the links for the BlueSCSI and Disk Jockey are bonus for me! I've been looking for something to use as removable storage for my Q605. Not sure if you have real hardware but, can I simply use the BlueSCSI external to transfer files using a USB SD card reader (to write to the SD from a modern mac)? Do any of you real hardware users use the external for multiple SD cards to boot different OS's? That would be fun! Does S7T have a dedicated BlueSCSI section?

I didn’t get on with the bluescsi not in my se/30. I believe power issues even on a recapped psu. For some reason it would stop any other scsi devices from working. I also couldn’t find any 4gb images only a 512mb one.

It did work though although I found it slower than an old fashioned spinny hd, that said there are 3d printed brackets so you pop an sd card in easily from the rear. Myself I prefer using Zip drives for adding software, plus i have a network card in that slot.

I should mention that I already have a SCSI2SD installed in the Q605. And being that I have a SCSI external CD ROM connected to the external SCSI port, I'm just looking for something to transfer files easily from the external SCSI port when needed. Also, I transferred files a couple of times to the SCSI2SD card by using a card reader and I think the third time I did it I totally hosed the file system and had to reinstall everything, DOH!

Of course the new bluescsi can be a plug in. It’s probably ok on yours as I imagine you have a better internet psu on your model

Doh indeed lol

Interesting he’s on a compact Mac as well. I did notice it was v2 mine is only 1.1

Well, I'm using an LCIII case for my Q605... you think the PSU in a Q605 machine is the same as the LCIII? Ah, who knows... seems to work okay. My SCSI2SD is V5.5... pretty old by now.

I think I'm going to order one of the external devices and mess around with different OS's.

Can I install OS9.2.2 on a Q605? Would it be dog slow? I have 128MB ram.

Where do you guys get your SD cards? Is there preferred brand?

Does the Q605 support multiple OS's by holding down the option key?

@Neal, just curious, but what do you mean about an internet power supply?
