@cballero: I was referring to soundworks more recent post: "Resurrecting this thread!  My Quadra 840AV takes a while (~49 sec to show video) to cold boot with 128MB RAM...", but failed to mention his name (sorry), and reflected on the length of time Syntho was describing. Which was more like how my beige G3 starts up. Soundworks has got it breezy in only 49 secs :D

But yes, the Quadra 840AV (and Centris/Quadra 660AV) all use the same unique ROM (ID: $077D) which is 2MB in size, as opposed to the usual 512K and 1MB ROMs as found in standard '030 and '040 Macs.

The AV Macs aren't compatible with some of the other add-on cards too. Apple's own PDS slot 601 PPC Upgrade Card, springs to mind :P
