I've been terribly late to respond to this. Mike (who sent this to me) - if you're reading this, I'm sorry for the delay! Anyway, he dug up a copy of Apple's CD/DVD extension 1.4.8. S7T recommends 1.4 as the last stable version for 68k ever since Dan's days, who had put a lot of research into these versions. The newly found extension comes with no changelog, so this is something that requires good testing. Unfortunately, my IIci doesn't have a CD-ROM drive at the moment and the 8600 is temporary in storage as we're remodelling the office room. I was wondering if one of you guys would be interested in testing it on System 7? You can grab 1.4.8 here For completeness, here's also a version 1.4.7 |

This fixed bugs playing audio CDs with SoundJam and AppleCD Audio Player on my 8500. With Apple CD-ROM 5.4.2 I would get freezes or random muting. Mainly with OS8.1 - insufficient testing with Sys7/68k to comment.

I just tested this twice (to make sure I did it correctly) on System 7.5.5 and it does not fire up a Yamaha 6/4/16SX optical drive at all... if that helps.
