ADB Keyboard Problem

When I plug in my ADB keyboard (Apple Extended II) to my Mac SE, all three of the caps, num and scroll lock lights illuminate and the whole bus is stifled. Then when I unplug it, the mouse can be moved again.

Perhaps unrelated, but I am using a S-Video cable in an ADB cable's stead. The black standoff didn't fit into the SE or the keyboard so I snapped it off. The pins still fit reasonably well.

I seem to be in a similar boat to this fellow:

Unfortunately, I've noticed wear around the ADB sockets and this corrosion/filth under the keys. I'll have to take it apart over the next weekend and see what lurks within.

While this might be a bit of work, I think it will be worth the effort to save. The keys still feel and sound great despite the setback!

How have your recent Extended Keyboard II purchases been? Hopefully better than mine.

If it helps I can’t use my extended apple keyboard from my 6500 on my se/30 either. It locks up. Same once i unplug it, it all works again. Where as my standard apple ii keyboard is fine on both machines. Not sure if there are extra protocols in the extended keyboard that the older machines can’t deal with.

What country are you compact mac?

I live in the United Kingdom.

Ahh, looks like I'm not alone with my AEKII woes.

Still, I reluctantly returned the keyboard to the seller. I disassembled it and found more corrosion than I could manage to clean. I can't rule it out as a cause, some of it even covered a resistor.

With that said, the Alps switch keys were truly a joy to use. I'll keep an eye out for another in the future.
