I made an earlier post mentioning my problem with a bad CRT in a PowerMacintosh 5500/250. I'm currently looking for a replacement, and was wondering if all of the motherboards could be swapped with each other in the 5xxx line. I think I might have read somewhere that a 5500 board couldn't be switched with a 5200 board because of power supply issues. I was wondering if this is true or not, and also what about LC/Performa 5xx series computers? Would there be enough room in the LC/Performa 5xx case? The current 5500 board I have has ethernet, Video in & Video out cards. I would appreciate any advice on the subject! |

As a general rule there is a great deal of forward and backward compatibility between the 5xx series of boards and the 5xxx series of boards. The Color Classic board fits into this category as well as does the 64xx and 65xx motherboards. A Google search on the specific swap you are thinking about will probably turn up useful specific information. I have personally never had an occasion to look at making a swap, but I have come across a great many sites that make mention and provide details on about it. bill
