So I've been working on this machine for a short period of time (I inherited it from the company I work for), and I've never been able to find the software CDs for the WGS.  I had a WGS 8550 as well, and couldn't find the disc(s) for it, either.  Were these software releases for the WGS rare, or is there another reason they don't seem to be available?  I have a DAT2 tape drive in this 8150, but no idea how to use it without some sort of interfacing software for it (aside from a full-fledged backup suite like Cheyenne's ARCserve, also impossible to find), what do you use with your WGS machines?

It doesn't just work like any other drive? You put a tape in, then what happens?

Well...that's not exactly what I mean, but yes, it works.  And certainly it's no issue to use SimpleBackup and just dump to the tape drive.  But I guess I was trying to get at additional information regarding the special discs that Apple released with WGS line of machines.  For example, the 8550 WGS disc(s) had software raid and a few other goodies (such as an Apple-branded backup utility suite).  Unfortunately, I've not been able to find any of these discs.

Actually, I just went to do a test, and it looks like you can't just access the tape drive as a normal drive.  The system sees it, but it doesn't create any standard mode to access it (probably has something to do with it being a sequential access volume).  In any case, I ran across this thread in an old HP forum:

Which, to summarize, seems to indicate I need to purchase software in order to use the drive (in this case, Dantz Retrospect for Mac).  This should be fun...

I've used Retrospect 4 for network back-ups with internal and external DDS/2/3 drives with sys 7.5.5 and 7.6.1 and 9.2.2.

Retrospect is pretty good. The only problems I've had have been due to tape drives failing.

Have never seen any original disks for my 8550 either....
