Hello,
I'm looking for a good image browser (JPEG, GIF, TIFF, etc.) for OS 7.6 or 8.1. I like ACDSee, but it needs OS 8.5.  Any ideas?

Thanks,
David

For a general-purpose image viewer and slideshow application, try Jade 1.2 - you can find it with a quick search in the Info-Mac archive.

iView Multimedia is an excellent image viewer and cataloger and is available for download here on System7Today. Graphics Converter is a well respected Mac image viewer, editor and cataloger.

Give JPEGView a shot. It's similar to Jade.

In fact, Jade works as a kind of 'clone' of JPEGView. I've had better luck with JPEGView personally.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, but none of these offer what I would consider true browsing - at least from what I can tell. By that, I mean the ability to navigate through a list of folders/images while viewing a particular selected image file on the same screen. This is particularly useful when sifting through a large image collection.

I have noticed that some programs do offer a tiny "preview" thumbnail in the 'Open' dialog box. This is close, but not quite what I was looking for.

Do you have or know of a similar application for a different OS/platform that works the way you want? I am not sure I understand what you are looking for and it might be helpful to look at a similar implementation.

ACDSee is one example. The browser in Photoshop I think version 7 on is another. The Photoshop browser is nice because you can view thumbnails of many images on the same screen.
