Hello again, I've got a hardware-related question. Is it possible to take a PCI video card from one mac (9500/200) and to put it in another one (like G3 or G4)? The video card in question has a VGA output, so it can connect a mac to a regular TFT display. Will it ble.. I mean work? z. |

You should not have trouble moving PCI cards from one Mac with PCI slots to another with PCI slots. Make sure you install any drivers for the PCI card on the new Mac. There are PCI video cards that do not work with OS X. The 3dfx comes to mind. But if you are moving from one Mac running a Classic Mac OS to another also running a Classic Mac OS you should have few if any problems. bill

1. before plug in your old video card, pls set your G3/G4 video output as 800x600 or 1028x640 resolution (better both classic & OSX has been set), then power off. 2. please install the related video driver of your old PCI card into your G3/G4 system (in classic). 3. please ensure the original video card in your G3/G4 has been removed and only the old video card remained at your G3/G4. 4. restart, (you may select systems by holding option key when restart). Good luck !

hmm, actually I'd like to have the old video card staying in the system. I'd like to have in my G3 two video cards in order to have two displays attached. Is it going to work?

Yep, I've had no problems switching video cards around. These have included MacPicasso 520, IMS 128TT, Matrox Millenium, and used in machines like 8500/9500. No issues using 2 monitors. Drivers are not essential, but probably improve performance. G.
