Quote This computer originally shipped with a 25mhz 68040. It has been replaced with a 50mhz 68040 from Sonnet. This is not merely a "clock chip" or other kind of silly hack, but an entirely new Motorola CPU running at twice the speed of the original. There's no such thing as a 50 MHz 68040 processor. The fastest 68040 processor that Motorola (FreeScale Semiconductor) produced was a 40 MHz model. So the processor in your Quadra 900 is indeed clock chipped. It has to be. So the question I have is this: Is it a clock chipped 33 MHz 68040 or a clock chipped 40 MHz 68040? |

One more question before I decide whether to place a bid. Does this machine come with install disks for AppleWorks 5? I see from the software guide on System7Today that AppleWorks 5 is listed as commercial software.

Quote from: "Minimalist" So the question I have is this: Is it a clock chipped 33 MHz 68040 or a clock chipped 40 MHz 68040? Well if that's the case, then it's clocked chipped, tested and sold by Sonnet. The point I was trying to express is that it's not something I did, like soldering something to the motherboard, to modify a base Quadra 900 it to make it 50 MHz. http://www.everymac.com/upgrade_cards/sonnettech/quad_doubler/quad_doubler_50.html

I understand what you're saying. I've tried to express the same point on many occasions myself.

I think potential buyers would worry about the possibility of a previous owner soldering or hacking away at internals. So I just had to emphasize it as best I could.

What about the Appleworks 5 install media? My concern is that I will not be able to reinstall the software I buy from you if I choose to scrap the puny 2 gigabyte (my Quadra 700 has 20 gigabytes of hard drive space and my beige G3 has 40 gigabytes so 2 gigabytes is relatively small) hard drive.

I lose :*( Bit more than I wanted to spend, even with picking it up. Congrats, Dan.
