So, I just finished going through this WGS 8150/80, installed a new PRAM battery, reseated all the memory, cleaned the dust from the board, etc.  It's my normal routine for machines I acquire of this vintage.  Everything seems to work okay, for the exception of the CD audio.

I've already done the obligatory, namely I verified that I didn't forget to plug the audio cable from the back of the CD-ROM into the logic board, and I verified that other audio do, in fact, work (i.e. system sounds).  The CD-ROM loads discs fine, and has no problems reading them, so I'm somewhat at a loss.  I don't think I've ever seen a CD-ROM drive have faulty audio circuitry, though I suppose it's possible.  Anyone ever run into this situation on their old PowerMac?

I don't think I've encountered this problem before (I've got a 9500 with no audio at all, but that's another story) but some things to check:
Check the Sound control panel... Sound In... options... Check Internal CD and playthrough are selected.
Is the CD Audio Access extension present?
If it's a non-apple drive, maybe needs an extra driver?

Wow, yeah, I missed it.  Thank you, kind sir, for the refresher.  For some reason, I just skimmed right over it the last several times...

Though, I once searched for 5-7 minutes for my keys, that were in my hand the whole time.
