I know that dan and others have tried the 1 ghz upgrade and it was unstable.  What would you recommend for the 7600 pci mac would the 700 or 800 mhz g4 be ok or would you recommend the g3.

G3 only - no G4s.

Because they don't work right with everything.

Fear not, a G3 at any speed will be a HUGE insane boost in speed.

The G4s I've tested seem to be randomly unstable in all sorts of software and hardware situations under System 7.  I've given up on them.  In reality, a 500mhz G3 should be way faster under System 7 than anybody could possibly ever need.

If you really want a G4, feel free to get one and see how it goes after about a month or so.

I would only use a G4 with Mac OS 9.
