I noticed that Sonnet has really been hacking away at their prices lately. Some of their stuff is a downright steal now. I'll list their System 7 compatible upgrades below: 500mhz G3 for PCI (7500, 8600, etc...) $49.95 http://store1.sonnettech.com/product_info.php?cPath=22_29&products_id=44 500mhz G3 for 7200 $39.95 (wow!) http://store1.sonnettech.com/product_info.php?cPath=22_30&products_id=37 500mhz G3 for L2 (6400, 6500, etc...) $99.95 http://store1.sonnettech.com/product_info.php?cPath=22_31&products_id=39 500mhz G3 for NuBus (6100, 8100, etc...) $99.95 http://store1.sonnettech.com/product_info.php?cPath=22_32&products_id=40 Video Adapter for NuBus G3 $19.95 http://store1.sonnettech.com/product_info.php?cPath=22_32&products_id=66 466mhz G3 for PowerBook 1400 $299.95 http://store1.sonnettech.com/product_info.php?cPath=22_33&products_id=41 (yeah this ones still expensive) |

An even better deal is the 400mhz G3 for 7200. $19.95 for G3 power, nice! JoAT

One last thing from me, Sonnet often sells its stuff on ebay as well. Looks like right now you can get the L2 upgrade shipped for less than $80. http://cgi.ebay.com/SONNET-CRESCENDO-L2-500-MHZ-1MB-G3-UPGRADE-CARD_W0QQitemZ320166336524QQihZ011QQcategoryZ4607QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Appears they halved the price on the G4 1GHz PCI upgrade as well, now $99: http://store1.sonnettech.com/index.php?cPath=22_29&osCsid=a18e7127b67c476e4e09335454fc25b6 We've had one reported success in using this upgrade with 7.6.1, check the forums.

Quote from: "kujo770" We've had one reported success in using this upgrade with 7.6.1, check the forums. I'm the one that did it. I wouldn't really call it a success. It is rather unstable. Speed Doubler's 68k emulation combined with the G4 seems to cause many programs to refuse to launch. I actually want to get rid of it, and replace it with one of those 500mhz G3s instead. I'm going to have to say it wasn't much of a success. Better off with the G3, which is insanely fast anyway.

Now may well be the last change to get a new Sonnet g3 for nubus, 7200 etc. An English reseller already lists those cpu upgrades as not available, and during the last year some older upgrades have been dropped also from Sonnet's own site.

If only they'd drop the prices on ZIF upgrades...

I am sure ZIF prices will drop in time, if they will continue their policy of keeping products for sale as long as someone is ready to buy. Even if it means dropping prices at the same rate, as those Mac models prices are going down. I hope the current situation is not just because someone (fired by now) over estimated the demand, and they are up to their neck with the old stuff.

I made the decision to purchase before I read your response. I have to admit, when I first installed it I was experiencing lockups from time to time. I then carefully reread the instructions. It states that the Sonnet installer must be run only with OS8 or OS9 - I had run it on 7.6.1. I booted up into a 8.6 System Restore CD I have, ran the installer and rebooted. It has not locked up once since and is insanely fast. I take that back, SimCity for some reason will always lock up, but everything else runs fine and looks great on my Radeon 7000.

Play a DV video stream and see if you get artifacts. I have random crashes and lockups as well. Maybe there are a new version of the drivers as the ones I have include a Read Me that says System 7.5.2 is the minimum requirements.
