I was given an old Mac. Currently I'm waiting for an adapter for the video. I have a switch hooked to a cable modem and a wireless connection for my MS based laptop. I'd like to access files between them once I get the Mac working. My experience with Macs is zero. I did find an original CD with OS7.6.1 on it. I see that it is the preferred OS for this machine. |

The PM6500 was a very popular and reliable Mac. I think you will find OS 7.6.1 very responsive on the machine. Take a moment to look though the pages on the System 7 Today site and make sure you grab all the updates. File sharing which has become relativelly seamless with OS X and Windows is more difficult with the older Mac OSes. It involves the use of third party software, which remain commericial and needs to be purchased. Thursby's Dave software comes to mind, but there is other software as well. Perhaps the most straight forward way to move files from a MS box and a Mac is to use good old FTP. I believe that XP has ftp built into it and there are several good ftp clients for Mac OS 7.6.1. You best start of course is to get the 6500 set up so it is running well. Make sure you can access the network and internet. Once the 6500 is running well and has access to the network, you can begin to explore ways of sharing information with your other machines. bill

I know my pc based systems since I'm MCSA certified but I am at the very beginning on the Mac. I probably will find myself once again taking notice of the time after working on my new toy and finding it to be 3AM on a work night. :-) I'm going to have fun.
