HI all,

I have a Power Mac 5500/225 without Ethernet card, so I decide to upgrade my Mac with a realtek PCI card 8139D.

Then I downloaded (with a dialup) from S7T the driver.

I used stuffit for decompression and diskcopy for mount image; then i moved extension file in the extension directory; but under TCP/IP i can't see any change..

What should i do with extension file?

If driver you downloaded comes with and installer, you should run the installer.

Extensions are only mapped into the system at startup, so you do need to restart for any changes to take effect.

There is a drop down menu at the top of the TCP configuration box that allows you to select the connection. If the install went well, you will find an option to select your card. It might not be as clearly labeled as it should be. Look for items like alternative ethernet, or ethernet slot one. It will be something different than built in.

Thanks for your quick reply,

The driver was without installer, so i put it in

Directory System -> Extensions.

Using extensions manager i can see:

PCI Network Legacy Loader

but using TCP/IP i see only:

Appletalk (MacIP)
MacPPP

nothing about Ethernet.

What could i check?

Thanks

You need to restart for the extension to take effect...

This link provides basic setup information for the TCP control panel. It is written for OS 9, but the setup is OpenTransport so there is little difference.

Follow the steps in the how-to insure you are working in Advanced.

There is a screen shot of the control panel in step 6. You will notice at the top of the box there is box labeled "Connect via". If you click on this you should see an option to connect using your RealTech card.

If your card does not show up as an option then either the card or the driver is not working. Using the system profiler application you can see if the card shows up in hardware. If it does not you might try cleaning the contacts and reseating the card.

If the card shows up in hardware but can not be selected for connection there is probably trouble with the driver. Ensure that you have a good copy of the driver, redownload it and reinstall the driver. If that does not help, look through the extension folder to insure that you do not have any other PCI ethernet card drivers in the folder that might cause a conflict with your new driver.

with flat connection (Ethernet) I donwloaded suggested update for system 7.5.5; but after installing open transport 1.3  my PCI Ethernet card stopped to work.

There are some particular setting zith that program?

I dicided to make a complete system restore; now open transport version is 1.1.1 and PCI card is working.

Any suggestion?

Thanks

PS after complete system restore I notice that PCI Network Legacy Loader extension is in both directories Enabled and Disabled...
(but this time PCI is working)
