Hello everyone,

First post here. I'm a recent mac convert and I like to get into the older stuff. I was able to get a powermac 7300 with 96MB of memory and 2G HD and ethernet adapter.

I think I downloaded pretty much everything I need to reinstall this bugger with 7.5.3 but the only machine with a floppy installed is in fact that 7300. I have a Mac Pro, Powerbook G4, Powermac G3 B&W and a broken powermac 4400, an Acer laptop without floppy drive and a Windows Desktop (with a floppy drive I just realized).

BUT - a couple of weeks ago (before I decided to take on this task of nostalgia) I thrashed hundreds of floppies thinking I wouldn't need them anymore and frankly, I don't wanna buy new ones. I really don't want to fiddle around with those unless absolutely nessecary.

I read about bootable cd's, I read about network boot disks and I read about formatting a HD, copying system folders and blessing it.

My eyes are sore from reading stories with half the info I need and I can't seem to figure out how to go about.

Any help would be greatly appreciated in getting my trusty old 7300 up and running with System 7.5.

THX!

In all reality, it's probably going to be very tough for you to get that thing booted without any floppies and only the 7.5.3 install floppies from Apple's web site.

You'll probably be best served by finding a 7.6.x Install CD from eBay, CraigsList, the LEM Swaplist, or somewhere.  Otherwise the toil and trouble may taint your first classic Mac experience.

I figured as much.

I'll be looking around for set of floppies or something.

Thx for the help.

Any efforts gettting the 7300 working with the disks available from Apple will be in vain. The PM 7300 came after System 7.5.3 and will not boot from System 7.5.3 in any case. The PM 7300 requires System 7.5.5 and System Enabler 702.

As Dan noted you will have your best bet looking for OS7.6 on either eBay or the LEM Swaplist.

I was lucky enough to find a 7.6.1 cd. I'll keep you guys posted on my progress and maybe post a picture or two when everything is up and running.

I'm sure once it is running, I will have more (n00b) questions :)

Oke, got it running although I had to spend some time figuring out what to do to be able to select the harddisk. The readme talked about updating drivers but that didn't work because the disk was not mounted.

I found the tools needed to reinitialze the disk and repartition it after which everything worked.

I'll post any questions I have in the correct forums (and you bet I have them ;-) ).
