Hi. How do you set an LC575 with 32MB and 200MB hardisk using 7.5.5 to surf the internet? The driver for the network (the slot is not in the brown one) has been installed with it's hardware and software diagnostics saying that's the hardware is good. Recommendations welcome. Should I buy (or swap) with a System 8 or a System 7.6? What if those two OS upgrades are not available, how do I get by with 7.5.5? Recommendations are welcome. Thank you in advance.

God bless,
Alvin

The LC 575 is a lousy lousy machine for surfing the Internet.   It's a great machine for doing FTP, Hotline, Telnet, and email though.   I wouldn't recommend the LC 575 as a server either, considering its large 14" builtin screen that cannot be turned off.

First of all, you can't have 32MB of RAM in an LC 575.   The 575 ships with 4MB on the board and one 72 pin SIMM slot.  You can add a 32MB SIMM, but that would give you 36MB of RAM -- not 32.

Secondly, to connect an LC 575 to a network is simple.   You install a network card into either the Comm Slot or the LC PDS slot, attach your LC 575's network card to your broadband modem, router, or switch, and configure Open Transport to use dhcp.

Thirdly, install the software that you will be using.   i.e. web browser, email client, Hotline client, ftp client, or whatever.

Lastly, start up your software and use it.   Pretty simple.

If you're using System 7.5 or newer, choose Open Transport over Classic Networking.   If you're using anything older than System 7.5, you'll have no choice but to use Classic Networking.

Actually, I believe it can.  Not manually of course, but using early forms of energy saving utilities.  There is a control panel I vageuly recall named "Brightness" which had a fature to shut off the built in screen after 15 minutes of no use.  You have to manually select it from the Mac OS 7 installer.

Because it means that there's something wrong.   If you're only seeing 32MB of RAM, it means that the RAM on your motherboard is bad -- which could also mean that your motherboard is not dependable -- or that there is a problem with your 32MB SIMM.

Oh, I was misinterpreting your posts as "negative aspects of LC 475s in general" and you giving the fact that it can take 36MB but not 32MB as being one of them.

I was like who cares if its not exactly 32MB.
