Classifieds / Macintosh Performa 6115CD
June 27, 2010, 20:50 |
I have two Macintosh Performa 6115CDs in my collection. I'm not sure what the difference between a 6115 and a 6116 is... |

Welcome, Jamie-Jamie! I never had to pretend to like Windows. I got a Fat Mac in 1985 and have been Mac ever since. The Mac collecting bug bit me hard and took on a life of its own. While I have bought some of my collection, most of them have managed to find me because word has gotten out that I collect them. I've got around 40... almost all still work. |

Hardware / Newest Mac

My newest Mac is a 2.8 GHz 24" iMac in my home office. One work office has one of the first release Mac Pros with a Dell 24" LCD (sorry!). My other office has a newish aluminum 20" iMac. I also have a Macbook that I can use when I pry it away from my wife and kids. |

Hardware / First Mac

Like user Lichen Software, I'm old. My first Mac was a Mac 512K. I thought the original Mac had too little memory to be useful and held off buying until the 512K came out. That 512K was later upgraded to a 512KE and, later, a Plus. I still have it: http://dredgereport.blogspot.com/ My first computer was an Apple II+. It had 64K (including the 16K Language Card), an Apple III green-screen monitor, two 5.25" Disk II floppies, a Videx 80-column card, and an Epson MX-80III dot-matrix printer. That set-up cost $3300 back in the day. |

That did the trick after two attempts at disk repair. |

Hardware / System Error Type 10 on 8600
May 06, 2007, 04:27 |
I just installed 7.6.1 (from a 5500, 6500 CD-ROM) on a very stock 8600 (32M RAM, 2G HD, 200MHz system). Installation went smoothly, rebooted and got a system error type 10. Type 10 errors are illegal instructions... that didn't offer lots of insight, beyond making me wonder if the CD-ROM won't install on the 8600 properly. Any ideas? Thanks! |

Hardware / Power Book Duo 230, help!

Sometimes logic boards appear on Ebay. More likely are listings for dead/parts doner Duos for about $10. Of course, since you don't know why those are dead, it may take several purchases to get what you want... |

Software / Burned CD readability problem

You used to be able to bless a System file by removing it from the System Folder and then putting it back. Is that still the method or is there some other mechanism? Thanks! |

Software / Possible solution
July 28, 2006, 21:44 |
The Mac I'm having problems with is a Power Macintosh 5500/225. Is it possible that I need 7.6.1 to boot on that machine which is why 7.6 doesn't work? |

Software / Similar problem

I have a System 7.6 CD (CD-R) that says it is a "Mac OS standard" disc. My 5500 will not boot from it. The 5500 says that this disc can't be used on this Mac (or something similar). Any ideas? |

Off Topic Discussion / Mines not as nice

My IIfx cost $4 (that's right, "four"), came with 20M RAM, video card, and Ethernet card. No hard drive. Case in very good shape. Booted right up off of an external hard drive. $570 for the one in the auction sounds a bit steep, but that was an awfully nice one. |

I have two Performa 6115CDs (same as Power Mac 6100) and a Power Mac 5400/200 -- neither type is a great candidate for a Radeon 7000. I just picked up a Power Macintosh G3 today -- that system would be a good candidate. Do you have a preferred supplier for the 7000? |

Operating System / Lots of versions
May 31, 2006, 02:26 |
I've got Mac OS 6.0.8, 7.0.1, 7.1, 7.5.5, 7.6.1, 8.1, 8.6, 9.2.2, and 10.4.6 running on various machine or, more accurately, running when I plug them in and boot them up. Because of this site, I'm thinking of standardizing as much as I can on 7.6.1. |
