4 Software / Recommend a good audio recorder?
February 26, 2008, 02:15
I'm looking for a good audio recorder for mac OS 7. It should record unlimited sound, in good quality, and be lightweight enough to run on a slower powerpc system. The one I already have tends to hiccup a bit on my powerbook 1400/117 when recording in stereo. Should also be freeware, of course.
5 Hardware / Just got my PB 1400

I have a few questions:

I can't figure out how to get the ethernet working (it has an ethernet port). When I go into TCP/IP in OS 8 it says "the previously selected option ethernet is no longer available". I can't get appleshare to start in the chooser either.

And, whenever I plug in the computer, it always starts up immediately. How do I not have this happen? I want to plug it in, and then press the power key to start it up.

I could spend hours just playing with the operating system and never launching a single application.   I do remember playing a lot with recording my own alert sounds though.

I can relate to that. Mostly just sorting through my files I guess. To me, the computer was all about files. Any time I got a new piece of software, I couldn't wait to try it out in my computer "world" as I thought of it. I also made many custom alert sounds as well - one of the default things to do when bored.

What was your very first Mac: the first computer you could really call your own, and will forever have a certain attachment to that model? For me it was the LC 575. Came with system 7.5.5, as well as a few software titles like Grolier multimedia encyclopedia, Microsoft Dinosaurs, The Animals, and something about Leonardo Da Vinci.

All 4 were awesome, except the encyclopedia was a little boring since I was like 12 years old. It also came with Clarisworks 3 I think, which was awesome. The most common thing I did on it by far was paint. Whenever I was bored, I would open a new paint and just draw something random. The hard drive was only 250mb though, so cleaning out the junk was something I did fairly often, and often I'd have to make hard decisions over what to keep and what not to, cause I couldn't keep it all (unless I wanted to live with like 20mb free space left on the drive). I then later got hypercard for it, which claimed a huge portion of the pie chart of what I spent time doing on the machine.
8 Off Topic Discussion / Libmoto

I knew that blasphemous OS 8 talk would get me in trouble sooner or later...

What exactly is libmoto, how does it work, and should I use it in mac os 8 on my powerbook 1400? (question also applies to speed doubler)
10 Software / Flowchart program

I'm trying to remember the name of a flowchart program I used on mac classics in school. It was called something like mind workshop, or imagination toolkit, or something along those lines.

I think I'll just go with mac os 8. I'm afraid that somehow AM will slow down all my apps somehow, even if they don't need the 8 GUI.
12 Software / MS Office - Appleworks

If I choose to use MS office over appleworks, does that make me an evil person?

and doesn't running 68k code in emulation defeat the purpose of a powerpc?

So, are you saying that when I get my powerbook 1400cs (117mhz), I should run system 8? I'm a little confused; I thought system 7 was best for pre-g3 macs, but since I have a powerpc ,system 8 better cause it has more powerpc code? I mean, virtual drummer isn't exactly performance demanding... and it's really the only thing I need AM for. I'd like my system to overall be fastest as it can be otherwise.

Interesting tips; luckily I don't have to use it for anything else.
