1 Operating System / Hosed my system
June 21, 2008, 03:46
I was playing around on my duo 230 when I noticed that there was a separate system folder tucked away in a Norton utilities folder.  It was system 7.6 and I thought Hey it's newer than 7.1.  I made a backup of the 7.1 system folder and called it 7.1 backup and moved it out of the system folder and placed the 7.6 system briefcase in the system folder.  I restarted and was greeted with a pretty mac os screen that said system 7.6 was not compatible with my 230.  I have no way of getting on the internet with my 230 but it did have Norton Utilities 2.0 installed so I was wondering if there was a keyboard shortcut that would start norton utlities without opening the system. If not, then I suppose I will have to try to find someone with an old mac and do an appletalk connection or reinstall system 7.1 or 7.5 via a scsi cd rom or floppy drive (neither of which I have).  I feel rather stupid right about now, and also pretty depressed.  I have the duo mini dock so it's feasible that I could get it fixed eventually but I wanted to ask and see if anything could be done to fix it in it's current state.

I've got a modem. I suppose I should have said that I have the duo minidock as well.  It's configuring the modem that has me baffled at the moment.

I got my Macintosh Powerbook Duo 230 earlier this week in a box with other electronics.  I'm quite impressed with it but for the moment it lacks the ability to connect to the internet.  It's running system 7.1.
