1 Software / Warcraft II No CD Recognised in game
May 14, 2008, 14:47
I've actually stumbled on a solution to  at least transferring large files.  I use an External SCSI hard drive and found buried away a SCSI to USB converter. hour or so tinkering later got the Drive to mount on the Macbook Pro so I can transfer files larger then Floppy but even so  making a Disk image of the Warcraft CD isn't practical or really possible.

What really need to do is Bite the Bullet and get a Mac that has a PPC Chip and can boot in OS 9 or 8. At them moment I'm stuck with two extremes an Intel Mac and a 68k Mac. Shouldn't have given my G3 iMac to my Brother :D
BUt thats somehting i can actually work out myself.

So for now everything has been Solved thank you very Much for your help all of you. :D

I want to thank all off you for your help.

I believe the problem actually lies with the Drives Physical restriction rather than a Driver issue. AS i noticed it doesnt fully read certain types of disks

For example if I put a Audio CD in the Drive it mounts but will not play back the music and if I put a burnt CD it really struggles ot read it (i assume its a thickness issue of a Burn CD) sometimes it take 10+ mins to mount or not at all and hten transfering Data from it will almost certainly Not happen.

What I notice is that in my Macbook Pro  and if i remember from some other Macs that the Warcraft CDs had both Data Partition and a Audio partition and that that partition does not mount (even though other Audio CDs do mount although not play) so i believe since the CD ROM Drive Struggles with some types of CDs that it may not Cope with a Dual partitioned CD and there for eh tGame does not see the Full CD image there for thinks its not there.

And Since i Cant Create an Image in Mac OS X burn as data to the CD and transfer it and the  LC 475 to read it cause its a Burnt CD. If i could I also don't have room on my HD to house the image. So basically i Believe I'm SOL. :D

I may Get a Apple Branded CD ROM Drive but I think ill leave it for the time being

I may have to start a New Topic for this But any one know how i could Split Files Larger than 1.4 Megs in Mac OS X 10.5 to transfer via Floppy to the LC 475 then
 recombine in 7.5.5

After doing some poking around I found that Audio CDs Don't play in the Audio CD Player Application that comes with 7.5. How ever I did install  the 5.3.1 Apple CDROM  extension and this Seemed to help a little. With the game I got the Intro Movie (which plays form the CD) but after selecting Single player and the campaign upon loading the level the CD Ejects and it asks for the CD again and I wouldn't take it and i Have to Quit.
Also Audio CD Player started playing a music CD but no sound even at full volume and then Changing Tracks gave the error of no Audio CD.
I the Decided to do the minor update to 5.3.2 but this went back to the previous behaviour
So I am certain its a Driver issue I Believe the Driver for the MicroNet is just old to be perfectly compatible with 7.5. It hasn't lost any functionally as such but it doesn't allow certain things in 7.5 which are new.

I don't suppose anyone would know what Drivers would be required for a MicroNet Quad Speed CD ROM  (model#   ADVMM3) as i could not find anything Via the net ie Search with Google

and thank you to both who have responded

No it didn't work Without the Drivers and yes i installed that update and Still Zip. I'm thinking it may require an update in the Micronet Driver but Have been unable to locate any old Extensions/Control Panels.

Hi, I'm New here and was actually inspired by this website to try and bring a new lease of life back to our old   LC475.

I decided that it was still a Great Machine although its usefulness has all but been reduced to a Classic Games Machine and as such i decided to get it as upto date as possible (Previously ran 7.1) and Finally load on Warcraft 2

I used to play Warcraft II on an old G3 imac which we sold and wanted to get it running on the LC 475 which was by all means inside Sys Req apart form Syst 7.5.

So I Loaded up 7.5.3 from the Apple website downloaded via a Macbook Pro copied across to the LC with an External Floppy Drive on the MBP and placed on the LC (took a few hours :D)  and also was able to get it upto 7.5.5 from updates in much the same fashion. Great :D worked a Charm and is happily running 7.5.5

We have a old  Micronet CDROM that seems to function fine (I took the old Micronet CDROM version 1.0.8 Control panel in the 7.1 System folder and placed it into the New 7.5.5 System Folders Control Panels)

And was able to Get all CDs to load Fine and install Warcraft II (and its Expansion) from the CDs no problems.

Well i say no Problems.. it wasn't until i tried to run the Game which in itself ran fine no error messages no problems with memory only that when you click on Single Player or anything that requires the CD it tells me to Insert the CD, the Same CD that is still in the Drive mounted on the desktop that i installed form in the first Place.

So For this is the situation everything appears to be hunky dory except for the one game that i actually wanted to do this for

I'm not really expecting anyone to have an answer but really just posting on the off chance someone out there knows what I'm on about and knows how to fix it or at least has a work around.

Verions of Software involved

Micronet CDROM  1.0.8    (control panel)
Mac OS 7.5.5
Warcraft IIx  1.33 (CD version)

If anyone requires more information about my system Please ask

Any Help Appreciated.
