Operating System / Are you running Mac OS 7?

I haven't really tinkered much with my 5200 outside of pulling the logic board to see what I'm going to have to upgrade. (...and upgrading from 7.5.5 to 7.6.1) Seems to work fine, but then again, although it has an Ethernet card, I've not yet tried to get it online. I'm sort of going "backwards" here - I have a Newton MessagePad 2100 and 2000U I was trying to synch with both of my OS X machines (both Tiger 10.4.11 - no need for Leopard) albeit unsuccessfully. I figure that maybe it'll synch more easily with a computer of the same vintage. Next step is a G3 WallStreet and OS 9.2.2.

Hardware / Power Mac 5200 logic board option

Hi, LEM mentions a logic board upgrade for the Power Mac 5200 - that one can use one from the 6400. Is this a direct plug-in replacement? It also says that the back plate will have to be modified... has anyone done this and how extensive a mod is it? Thanks for your time. |

Awesome! Got the Mac open and found the CMOS battery and numbers - it had a "Rayovac 840" in it - that's the correct one I would imagine, eh? |

Hi! I'm pretty used to OSX - have a 12" PowerBook G4 running 10.4.11 and a Power Mac G5 dual-2.3GHz running same... I wanted the classic Mac to sync with my Newton MessagePad 2100 - thinking of also getting a WallStreet PowerBook for the ADB ports... although someone was telling me the Pismo was darn good too. I'd like to keep the 5200 running 7.6.1 as I don't really use it for much but to tinker with - I need to replace the CMOS battery next. How difficult a task is that? Thanks! Scott |

Greetings to all - I'm Scott and this is my first experience with classic Mac OS! I am a recent (about three years now) convert to the wonderful world of all things Mac and am excited to have come across my latest acquisition - a Power Macintosh 5200. It came with OS 7.5 and I recently upgraded it to 7.6.1. I think it has 16MB of RAM right now - I've ordered a 32MB chip for it. I have a lot of learning to do so please forgive any newbie mistakes. Looking forward to hearing from you and to swap a few stories sometime! Till later, Scott |
