Hardware / Video Card/Monitor Matrix

Here's a link to a useful matrix of which Apple monitors work with which nubus video cards. http://home.earthlink.net/~gamba2/vid-mon-matrix.html |

Hardware / IIci Video cards
January 22, 2012, 18:57 |
As far as I know, any of the Nubus cards that work in the Mac II or IIfx should work. A good one, if you can find one, is the Apple 8-24GC. The only one I've seen on eBay recently was in Australia so shipping was pretty steep. I've never tried booting my IIfx from the external CD drive so don't know if that would work. It does boot just fine from an external HD, however. Good luck with your video card search. Tom |

Hardware / File sharing between OS 7 and OS 10
October 23, 2011, 18:58 |
I don't know much about the LC but none of them have a built in ethernet port, so unless you can get an ethernet comm card in the PDS slot I think you're out of luck connecting the LC to the other machines. Other forum members may have better suggestions. To connect the other machines together just install a router and run an ethernet cable from each machine to the router, then follow the instructions in the link you posted. Be aware that OS 10.6 and later does not support classic networking. |

Classifieds / FS: PCI cards and floppies
October 03, 2011, 04:25 |
A couple of PCI cards and some floppies for sale. Prices do not include mailing cost. Radeon 7000 video card (32MB), VGA out, working pull from an 8600. $10 Adaptec 29160N SCSI card, 68 and 50 pin internal, HD50 external. Another working pull. $5 A stack of 16 1.44MB floppies, Used but all tested good in July. $2 8x 800KB floppies, used but again tested good. $2 Media mail (in the US) shipping for the floppies should be cheap. |

Operating System / Sharing
August 18, 2011, 19:38 |
[so, i have to install it? or can i connect the two os only with open transport? ] My experience is that you need ShareWay IP to connect to a 10.4 system. Apple added ShareWay IP to System 9 but for any OS prior to that you will need to get it from the OpenDoor site. I have OS 7.6.1 on my IIfx with ShareWay IP 3.1 installed and can connect just fine TO systems up to and including 10.5. However, I cannot connect FROM 10.4.11 to the 7.6 system, so be aware of that. Apple changed something in 10.4.11 that prevents connecting from it to earlier systems. |

I have some Apple Design (M2980) and Apple Keyboard II's (M0487) that are surplus. Which would you prefer? How about $7 for the M2980 or $5 for the M0487, plus shipping. |

Classifieds / FS: Mac 8600

Assuming I can get the keyboard and mouse in the same box with the 8600 and the packed weight is 44 lbs, UPS ground would be $54 plus or minus a dollar or two. This would be the same box I got my other 8600 in; there's lots of foam in place packing material inside. |

Classifieds / FS: Mac 8600

Pardon my lack of understanding, but I'm not sure what you're asking. Both hard drives are SCSI, there is no USB card. The Zip, floppy, and CD drives all work fine. The computer has OS 9.1 on it now, but OS 7.6.1 also works on it. If I did not answer your questions, please try again. |

Classifieds / FS: Mac 8600
July 03, 2011, 01:29 |
Up for sale: Mac 8600/300 with a G3/450 processor card. 896MB FPM Ram, 2 hard drives (9 GB 10K RPM, 18GB), 4MB internal VRam, IX3D video card (Mac DB-15 and VGA output), 10/100 ethernet card. Floppy, CD, and Zip 100 drives all work. Apple Keyboard (M2980) and mouse included. This was originally an 8600/200, so the front panel says "8600/200", but a 300 "Kansas" logic board has been installed so it's functionally an 8600/300. I would include the original 200 (Tsunami) logic board and a 604ev/300 processor card that works in the Kansas board.. Case is in good shape; just a couple of scuffs on the sides, no yellowing that I see, no dings in the metal. I've been using it daily of late to archive my floppy disks and it's working great. $50 plus shipping, or if that's too much make an offer; I "may" dicker. But the Ram and fast HD alone are worth almost that much.. |

Classifieds / Almost Free: Software on Floppies
June 30, 2011, 06:01 |
Two old software titles on 800K floppies, plus some blanks. 1. WingZ, a 68K era Spreadsheet program; label says it's for the Mac SE and Plus but it seems to load and run in my IIfx with 7.6.1. 2. Ram Doubler, by Connectix. Both are free, you pay for mailing costs. Also, 8 blank (used, but erased ok) 800K floppies. I'd like a couple of dollars for these just for the hassle of packaging them, plus mailing cost. |

Yes, I still have an extra CD, a genuine white Apple disk. If you want to do PayPal that's fine, just do it as a gift so I don't eat the PP fees. Contact me via PM for final discussion and address, etc. Tom |
