Operating System / System 7.6.1 on a 6400?
October 01, 2010, 18:24 |
Quote from: "wove"
sometimes, if you burn the CD at the "speed" faster than the CD ROM limit, it can not be recognized. e.g. the 6400 built in CDROM is 8X, so, better use toast to select the speed burning at 8X or 4X or even 1X if you could find some very oldies CDR which still support that low speed burning. So, I have 1 time to buy a small quantity of 4X CD-Rs and use it very carefully with the real necessary disc for my classic macs. |

Hardware / Moving a PCI video card between 2 macs
December 11, 2009, 06:54 |
1. before plug in your old video card, pls set your G3/G4 video output as 800x600 or 1028x640 resolution (better both classic & OSX has been set), then power off. 2. please install the related video driver of your old PCI card into your G3/G4 system (in classic). 3. please ensure the original video card in your G3/G4 has been removed and only the old video card remained at your G3/G4. 4. restart, (you may select systems by holding option key when restart). Good luck ! |

Hardware / Color Classic startup problem
January 31, 2009, 10:04 |
I have similar experience before. It seems like the HD has some kind of damaged and the previous system folder can not be accessed. What I did before was to take out that HD and put into powerpc mac with OS761 to initialize as a blank one. Then, I put it back to the Color classic and it become recognized. Good luck ! |

New Member Welcome / Hi everybody

I have the same feeling. When I have start from PPC9600 in 2003, I found Mac is much more interesting than PC. In these years, I collected around 20 something old macs (some of them still under trying to fix by myself). I would like to say this is sort of "addicted" but I like it. This site really provided a good resources for the updates that I frequently needed when a hard disk being re-initialized. Wish all mac lovers ... continue collecting and don't let them go to garbage. |

Software / Want to try Linux
July 20, 2008, 14:00 |
Quote from: "Minimalist"
I used floppy bootloader from PPC 9600 open firmware to successfully installed NetBSD 4.0. However, I could not use open firmware to "dir" or boot ofwboot.xcf from the scsi/sd@0:0 (the HD that I installed NetBSD.) I stucked here for nearly 3 weeks and searched quite some FAQ but still can not go further i.e. to boot from that HD. Is there any way that can create a floppy with the ofwboot.xcf and to load the second boot loader ? I don't know why I can not use open firmware to boot the HD directly ? If it is successfully boot, I think it will be very similar to install the debian. |
