Software / Re: Genealogy / heritage software (with GEDCOM support)
September 26, 2021, 23:18 |
Glad you might have found some software that could work for you. I use gramps on windows 10, though it supports gedcom many programs like gramps found gedcom limiting and you have to export in the xml format or convert using other programs or utilities. Gedcom is ok but doesn't really go beyond so many generations, out includes limits on file size, doesn't really work for pictures and even between programs it doesn't really copy everything. So if I were keeping genealogy research I'd keep a paper back up, hard copy offline and two or more modern apps. So I can only imagine using a operating system without Unicode support or limited support os 8.5-9.2.2 or even Mac osx 10.6 would be impossible or highly unlikely to copy or migrate all the information correctly like different languages, currency support, years and such lol. I have used multiple genealogy programs but there isn't really a replacement for good old physical backups and "work in fixing, importing gedcoms or somehow getting this info to other programs. Cheers. |

Gedcom support (5.5ish version) wasn't really supported until around windows 95 with Unicode (think macos 8.5 started really supporting unicode utf) and mac developers left mac platform or did other formats like LDS or temple ready. System 7 support will be limited usually to about this limit (gedcom 4, 5.2) but ymmv. Reunion 6 over at macgarden, family tree maker and this list here might help https://www.macgenealogy.org/mac-genealogy-software/ |
