New Member Welcome / New, with Old World Mac Questions

In my opinion, power doesn't really mean much when you're running System 7. I could be running it on a Macintosh SE or a Power Mac 9600 and it'd still be System 7. I personally use a Power Macintosh 6500 as my daily driver. It's got a Crescendo G3 400 MHz card as well as an ethernet card in it. Runs System 7 terrific, and I can browse the internet with little trouble thanks to the System 7 Today build of Netscape Navigator. I'd recommend bagging a Power PC-era Mac as you'll find more applications available for PPC than 68K. You don't have to go for one that has a ton of upgrades, just one that has a decent amount of RAM, decent hard drive, and at least a spot to plug in an ethernet upgrade card, and you're good! Software / Apple Video Player not recording...

Update: I swapped in the old L2 Cache card and it still crashes when I try to record video... Now I'm completely at a loss on what to do to fix this issue. Any ideas? |

Ok folks, here's my stats: Power Macintosh 6500/225 Sonnet Crescendo L2/G3 400MHz/512K Processor Upgrade card 128 MB RAM 15GB HDD Apple TV/Video System (TV Tuner and AV in cards) Macintosh System 7.6.1 Here's my issue: I've been using this machine as my retro videogaming machine as my new TV that replaced my old one unfortunately does not have Composite In, only HDMI. It runs input on all my retro consoles just fine with no issue whatsoever. I recently decided that I wanted to record gameplay footage on the machine so that I can upload my speed-run footage on YouTube. When I start to record it works for about 15-20 seconds, then the whole computer locks up and the only thing that moves on the screen is from the AV or TV Tuner cards. This happens not only with Apple Video Player, but with the included Avid VideoShop 3.0 software. A friend of mine seems to think that it might be my G3 Upgrade card causing interference, but I wanted to get a second opinion before I pulled it out and put back in the old L2 Cache card. Any thoughts? |

jonpurdy, depending on where in the world you are, I would be more than happy to take that machine off of your hands and add it to my collection. Does it even run? Is it in good condition? Do you have a copy of A/UX that could be thrown on there? How much would you want for it in the event that you would want to sell it rather than just get rid of it? |

My handle is TheEisenfaust. I'm a long time Apple user, with a major enthusiasm in collecting vintage Apple tech and other Apple Collectibles. Some of the folks on here may recognize me from the 68kmla forums under the same handle. I've been browsing this site for a while, and since I'm trying to expand my legacy knowledge, I figured "Why belong to one forum, when I can belong to two and get twice the experience and knowledge!" Another big reason for me signing up here is 68kmla no longer supports legacy browsers like iCab and Classilla, so it kinda stinks when I'm running on my classics for the day, and I can't log in nor see the forum... Anyways, it's nice to meet you, and I hope to not only learn from you all, but also share my knowledge with you too.
