Operating System / PowerBook 165 Floppy Boot Problem Solved
October 25, 2013, 10:57 |
I figured out the problem. It was really bizarre. I have both a 180c and a 165--both of which have 160mb SCSI hard drives. There was something wrong with SCSI circuitry of the hard drive which seemed to prevent it mounting or something when loading a bootable floppy. I tried a boot disk in the 180c, and I got all the way up in to Finder. I swapped the hard drives between the two machines. I was now able to boot the 165 with a floppy, but not the 180c. The ability or inability to boot all the way in to Finder with a floppy followed the specific hard drives around. This took quite a lot of figuring out! And, terribly, as I was using the systems two night ago, both; BOTH; of the hard drive completely died after I used each machine for about an hour. Devastating. |

Operating System / Making install disks for PowerBook 165
October 19, 2013, 22:21 |
Hi All, I wanted to reinstall Mac OS 7.1 on an old PowerBook 165 that I found on Craigslist. I am unsure how to do it. I made a set of high density floppies. Then, I copied the System enabler for the PowerBook 165 on to install disk #1. When I boot with install disk 1, it just hangs with the watch mouse icon spinning. Does anyone have advice on what else I should do? The computer books fine with 7.5 on it...I just wanted to freshen it up. Thanks, Kevin |
