News & Announcements / An important message from Dan
August 22, 2016, 10:23 |
Thank you very much for what you have done! Thanks to this website I managed to give a new life to my PM 9500 with System 7 and managed to even do some professional work with it until last year. I was doing traditional 2D animations with it. I know that this computer will never be a computer for the Internet (well, it has never been built for that purpose anyway) but it is still a very capable machine for visual creations. I have now made a full move to free software but I still love to use my old macs. Again, thank you for all your hard work with this website and forum! I am glad the website itself will still exist. It is indeed a great archive with a lot of great info! |

Software / Mounting *.iso images
August 01, 2016, 14:15 |
This one is a bit tricky as I don't think Disc Copy can load .iso files. You may have to burn the image to a CD with a recent machine and find a CD drive to plug to your IIci. If you have another old mac with a CD drive, you can also make a new image with Disc Copy from this mac and find a way to transfer it to the IIci (AppleTalk, drive swapping...) |

Hardware / Mac IIci spontaneous power on
August 01, 2016, 14:06 |
Hi DerekLewis, usually, it is recommended to replace the capacitors on this kind of aging motherboard. You may check if you see one that is leaking. I would also clean the board if it is dirty. Also, replacing the PRAM battery is a good idea and very easy to do. I hope that helps! |

Operating System / LC 520 Operating System

Hi Flan, With 36MB of RAM, 7.6.1 should run just fine! I have an LC III with 32MB of RAM and moved it from 7.1 to 7.5 without noticing any slow down. I actually prefer 7.5 or 7.6 to 7.1 because it handles my Ethernet card better. |

I also suggest you replace your PRAM battery. It may cause a few problems at startup indeed. |

Maybe you should try the VGA port instead of DVI? It is the one I use. |

Software / ImageWriter II emulator

I have checked that but the ImageWriter II driver don't handle postscript. At least, there is no postscript option in the print dialog. I have only been able to print to a postscript file using the LaserWriter driver. |

The only alternative I know is print to PostScript file. What you can do is install the LaserWriter driver on your mac and select it on the chooser instead of print2pdf. When you want to print with your software, the print dialogue should appear (hopefully!) and on this dialogue, you can select you want to print to a PostSript file. This kind of file is easily readable with photoshop. Hopefully, it helps! |

Maybe the best you can do if find a cheap working beige mac and a cheap working stylwrite printer. At least you would have the exact setup required by your software. I know that the stylewriter II uses cartridges that are still easy to find. |

I think there is an adapter to connect an old apple serial cable to a USB port. That would work for the imac. |

Actually, no. Netatalk doesn't work on Lion and newer. However, I managed to make it work on Mavericks using a debian virtual machine running on top of the system with virtualbox. I have written another how to somewhere I will try to find it. |
