Operating System / Any software installation

Absolute beginner talk here. I own a Apple Classic II running System 7.5, and i'm having trouble with installing any kind of software on it (tried .sit .bin .hqx files). It just doesn't recognize them. I googled for solutions, even tried to read System 7 manual (witch told me how to use mouse and other unnecessary stuff) but nothing useful showed up, so I'm hoping that someone here could help me.
