Hello all,

I've been a Mac user since 1986 when I spent hours at my father's office using MacPaint on what was probably a Macintosh 512k (I have a picture of me at the computer but only the side of the machine is visible). I went off to college in 1997 with a Macintosh SE which I named "Monkey's Bum". Within a week of arriving on-campus my Mac nerd roommate had me set up with an external ethernet card and I was checking my e-mail (through Telnet) from the comfort of my dorm room desk. Sadly Monkey's Bum has passed on, but a new pre-G3 Mac has just come in to my life.

Rummaging through the accumulated cast-offs in the basement here at work, I found a Performa 6115CD that had gone untouched on a shelf for 10+ years. Upon first starting up there was no video, and after some research I found that a dead PRAM battery can cause such problems. My noble and recently deceased G5 tower at home donated its battery, and the Performa came to life. Someone had updated it to OS 8.1, but it was quite sluggish. I spent this past weekend formatting & reinstalling 7.5 from the original disc, and I've finished upgrading to 7.6.1.

Now I wait for additional RAM and L2 cache to arrive, and it will be ready to play all of my old-timey games (Indiana Jones & the Last Crusade, Hellcats/Leyte Gulf, A-Train, SimEarth, etc).

I was very happy to find this resource while searching for updaters. I managed to hook up to the campus network and checked my e-mail with Netscape 4.8. Thanks for running this site! I'm looking forward to discovering more potential for this machine as I go deeper in the forum here....

Eric
