1 Software / Picture Viewer/Manager

Hi All:

I remember that I used to use iView Media Pro back in the day or ACDSee for Mac (IIRC Both were under OS 8+).  I was wondering if someone could recommend an application that runs under 7.1-7.6 that allows viewing of graphics in at least jpg, gif and mac formats.  PNG would be very nice too, although vintage software will not support it most likely.

I was looking all over for an installer for iView MP and of course I would not have a serial any longer... and since Microsoft owns them now... they are absolutely no help.

Any suggestions are welcome.

Greetings:

I am looking for two items for my Mac IIci and hoped someone here could help.  Please note that my budget is extremely strapped right now, but still want to acquire these items if possible.  If you have one or both to sell please PM me.

1.  Macintosh Color Display M1212 in excellent condition and in good working order.

2.  8*24 nubus video card (or any that will work inside the IIci).

3.  Also looking for an Apple 600 or 800 CD-ROM, just the internal unit, SCSI.

I cannot pay much for these, but we can iron out details via PM.  Shipping would be to Olathe, Kansas 66062.

Thanks for any help on these items.
4 Hardware / Mac IIci Questions
January 30, 2012, 02:34
Thanks for the reply wove!  Yeah I seem to remember the sync on green thing.  Silicon Graphics monitors and systems (which I had a couple) used the same kind of fixed frequency sync on green technology.  Though the connectors on the SGI were the 13W3 type.

I have found a loaner from a friend and confirmed that I needed the Macintosh Color Display M1212 to get my IIci to run.  So I can at least work with the machine until I find my monitor and/or video card.

I am hoping someone here has the monitor they'd sell.  I suppose I should post my want in the proper section here... so I will do that as well.  But did want everyone to know that I did find out that my IIci does function!!!!
5 Hardware / Mac IIci Questions

Hey Guys and thanks for the responses.

I am running into a new problem with my IIci now that she is supposedly healthy again.  I can hear her boot and the hard drive is accessing, but since I am lacking a proper Apple monitor, I tried to hook up to a VGA monitor (actually 2 different ones) using all three of the different Mac to VGA adapters I have.  Neither of my monitors will sync to the IIci.  I get diagonal lines.  If memory serves, this is because my monitors are not multisync most likely.  I am using the on-board video as I have not yet found a video card for my IIci.

The one monitor I have that I tried first was an old VGA as in max resolution is 640x480, though on the PC it is hooked up to normally, it may be 800x600, but certainly no more than the latter.

The other monitor I have is technically a VGA monitor but is a Commodore 1924 which was for the Amiga.

Anyhow, this means that I am looking for a good video card or a good multisync or Apple monitor of the IIci era.  The video card is not a problem if someone wants to sell it to me and all with shipping, though currently the budget is extremely tight.  PM me if you can help there.

Otherwise, on the monitor front, if there is someone who lives here in Kansas or in the KC metro area that has a monitor, I may be able to pick it up depending.  I feel shipping on a monitor may be too prohibitive to consider, but welcome PM if someone wants or can help that way too.

Otherwise -- Suggestions please!
6 Hardware / Mac IIci Questions
January 22, 2012, 08:50
Hey All:

I found a power supply for my poor old Mac IIci and so as of Monday(Jan 23, 2012) I will have the old girl up and running.

I was curious about two things.  1) Are the video cards(nubus) that work in the IIfx and others the same ilk for the IIci?  What is a good one to seek and where might I find it?

2) I need to get a CD-ROM external connected to the unit and I have a Apple 300 external SCSI case, the drive has long since been removed.  I have a Yamaha CDRW 10x and wondered if it is possible to get the IIci to boot off the 3rd party drive and if so, what do I need to do to get it to do it.

Also actually going to have to find a SCSI cable and maybe terminator... I think the Yamaha has termination on board and it is currently enabled if I read the documentation correctly.

I suppose, otherwise, I am interested in finding like an Apple 600 CD-ROM unit (not external) to put into my case :-)

Thanks for any help on this and indeed for anything else that you guys have helped with since I became a member of this community!

Hope everyone's new year is off to a good start!
7 Hardware / Looking for Macintosh II hardware
January 06, 2012, 15:19
Greetings:

I am once again on a search for hardware that is getting a little bit harder to find.  This is kind of a laundry list of sorts, but I am interested in finding these none-the-less.  PM me if you are able to help out and of course if you live in the Kansas City Missouri area, I am local to you and that would be the very best case for me!

I need a power supply for a Mac IIci that I already have. I also would consider a Quadra 700 unit if someone has one to replace the IIci.

Secondly, I am looking for a Mac IIfx in good working order.

Finally, an LC III (III+) in good working order and would like an LC monitor as well.

Please let me know if you have any of these to sell.

Thank-you,

Mike Needham
8 Software / Toolbox Software for SCSI drives
January 06, 2012, 15:10
Hey Bill:

I appreciate the post and I do have a copy of Zterm (which came with my Teleport modems which I seem to collect).  It is indeed available to me.

I am being nostalgic about White Knight.  I have found copies available on Fleabay, but I do not deal in that site at all and so I am hoping someone here may have a copy they'd sell or donate to a good home :-)

White Knight was my first foree into BBS from the Mac and I actually would recommend it when it was in the stores... being a BBS guy myself (ran one and co-sysoped another) I always felt like White Knight was the "Procomm Plus" of Mac and would therefore fancy a copy for my archives and my retro hobby.

Everyone:  Would love to hear if you have a copy available and feel free to PM me if you can help.

Just wanted to update everyone that I found the FWB Toolkit (which is what I was looking for).  Appreciate any help always.

Still looking for info on the telecom program I mentioned.

Thanks,

10 Software / Toolbox Software for SCSI drives
January 03, 2012, 22:42
Greetings:

I am trying to remember the 3rd party toolkit that was around back in the day.  We are running OS 7.6.x os on an LC III and are having a bit of difficulty getting a Yamaha CD burner to be recognized by the system.  We have attempted to use the generic apple cd driver version 5.3.2 (universal driver that comes with 7.6) and the drive is not recognized.  The toolkit was made by another company with three letters, but I can not seem to remember... STB maybe?  Would love to find the software again anyhow.  PM me if you have a copy.  But really need to find this again.

On another note, looking for a terminal program that I believe was called White Knight or something like that.

Thanks,

Mike Needham
11 Software / Need help finding some software
July 14, 2011, 19:45
Hey all:

Found the software and iVeiw Multimedia WAS what I was thinking of :-)

I need to find an installer for BBEDIT 6.5 or 7 if someone has that.  Bare Bones is definitely not supporting it any more even to get the shareware installer.  Likewise, would buy a retail copy if someone has one.

Thanks,

Mike Needham
12 Software / SCSI Probe
July 10, 2011, 10:13
Greetings:

I notice that SCSI Probe is no longer easy to find.  I am working with my Mac G3 Beige tower and it currently has SCSI Probe 5.1.1 and is Adaptec Branded.  I know that this forum is not really supporting OS 8.6+, but I would appreciate it if someone has this version if they might be able to help me find a link to the exact version or if you have a copy ( I assume it is okay to copy because it came with the SCSI adapters) would attach installer?

Thanks and PM me if you need to.
13 Software / Need help finding some software
July 09, 2011, 16:42
Greetings:

Been looking for some software and having trouble finding some of it.  One issue is that I can't remember the name of one of the applications.

Media Pro?  Anyhow, this is a program for viewing photos on your Mac.  If there is something that supports PNG as well that would be great.  I am currently actually running OS 9, but have plans to downgrade the machine in the very near future.

Anyhow... if someone knows the program and has a link to get it too, that would be great.
14 Software / Web Browser
July 07, 2011, 16:15
Thanks for the info.  I came to that conclusion as well (the classzilla browser).  The tower currently has 9.1 OS on it, but I plan to downgrade it to 8.6 I think. Still want to use System 7.6 and wondered if an old Mac IIfx would run that or not?  Don't have one, but I really do pine for the old OS.  I have come to Linux as my modern system, but currently don't have 100% access to a "modern computer"... so I want to put my G3 into service for my day to day needs.

This reminds me.  I need to find an office product for classic Mac that would read/write office 2003-2007 .doc (not worried about .docx) files?

Thanks for the tips and all that fun!

Mike
15 Software / Web Browser
July 07, 2011, 15:54
Hey All:

I just got a hold of a G3 Beige Tower that actually works and I am quite proud that it actually is in great shape (other than I need to find a couple of parts, another post in classifieds covers this).

BTW:  I paid a whopping $5 to save it from recycle.

I was wondering if there is a modern web browser for Mac OS (pre X obviously) that would allow me to do my day to day work using this great machine?  If there is, please provide a link to the software.  Obviously don't mind paying for it as long as it knows the current level of HTML, Java and JavaScript.

What do people use on here if any are browsing the web with their beloved machines at all?
