Hardware / PowerMac/Performa 5xxx Motherboard Swap
May 05, 2011, 05:20 |
I made an earlier post mentioning my problem with a bad CRT in a PowerMacintosh 5500/250. I'm currently looking for a replacement, and was wondering if all of the motherboards could be swapped with each other in the 5xxx line. I think I might have read somewhere that a 5500 board couldn't be switched with a 5200 board because of power supply issues. I was wondering if this is true or not, and also what about LC/Performa 5xx series computers? Would there be enough room in the LC/Performa 5xx case? The current 5500 board I have has ethernet, Video in & Video out cards. I would appreciate any advice on the subject! |

Operating System / Sharing Trouble....
March 01, 2011, 14:55 |
Hi everyone, I'm having some trouble connecting my MacBook with OS 10.6.6 to my PowerMac 5500 with 7.6.1 via ethernet. I've had no trouble sharing with Leopard but now with Snow Leopard I get some error messages. When connecting to the PowerMac I get "The Server xxx may not exist of it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again." When connecting from the PowerMac I get "This file server uses an incompatible version of the AFP protocol. You cannot connect to it. Please contact the server's administrator. I've noticed that I have no trouble sharing the internet connection from the Macbook to the PowerMac. I would appreciate any suggestions! |

Hardware / Suggestions/Advice...

Thanks so much for the information, Bill! I'll keep looking and feel a little better knowing that is won't go "boom". I also noticed on one of the "better" resolutions, the monitor gets louder when more white is being displayed on the screen. |

Hardware / Suggestions/Advice...

I have a Power Macintosh 5500/250, that I love dearly. However, I'm pretty sure the built in monitor won't last much longer as it has a high pitched squeel on all of the resolutions I find acceptable to use, and just recently a bit of screen jiggle on certain resolutions when the computer is first turned on. I've looked around on ebay and the web for replacement cases, thinking I could always use my motherboard and hard drive with a "shell" of another 5xxx series computer with a good working monitor, or even an LC 5xx series computer. I honestly haven't seen any of these AIO macs anywhere on the web under $200, and I've not seen a single one of these AIO macs on ebay. I thought this would be a really easy computer to find, and that everyone would want to get rid of them. I called around and there were a couple of computer stores that would be willing to take a look at it, but I'm afraid it might be more trouble and expense than what it's worth. I'm willing and open to listen to any suggestions other System 7 Today users might have! -Anthony |
