Hello everyone, I've tried everything and I'm still having the same problems. I even setup my switch to 10-half but can get it to work. I have a PM 8100 with 8.1, Appleshare 3.8.3, Open Transport 1.3 trying to connect via AFP to a Macbook running 10.5 I'm getting the same error from Chooser "quit with type 1" Any help appreciated. Hardware / Color Classic printing options
January 19, 2010, 15:19 |
Hello all, I was reading/searching postings about Classic Macs and printers but could not figure out a define answer so I'm starting this topic. I want to be able to print from my Color Classic (text, graphics, on laser or ink). What I need is a printer I can send Word 5.1a docs to. The Color Classic is running System 7.6.1. I also have a PM 6100 and a PM8100 running 7.6.1 on the same network, as well as modern day Macs (iMac 20 inch, Macbooks and a Canon Printer). I'm looking to connect a localtalk printer directly to the Color Classic, or to one of the PowerMacs to share on the network. What are my options? I've been looking into old HP laserjets because they are easy to find in Brazil, where I live, but I'm not sure if I can get drivers for System 7. I did some research but could not find a decisive answer. There are drivers for MacOs8. I could upgrade one of the PMs to MacOS 8. But, could I then print from the Classics to that printer on the PM? Will they show up in Chooser? Would I need some sort of driver on the Classics? What about Mklinux or Linux on the PM printing to that Canon printer? Would that work? Many thanks for any help, Marcio Pocciotti |

Hardware / Powermac 6100 with pink screen
January 12, 2010, 21:20 |
Hello all, yes, I have an HPV. I tested it (without the 6100 top cover) and it works. So it is the motherboard. The problem is that I don't have a PDS-PDS adapter in order to install the HPV horizontally, So.... Thanks a lot for your help. Marcio Pocciotti |

Hardware / Powermac 6100 with pink screen
January 12, 2010, 03:34 |
Hello Bill, Thanks for your reply. The 6100/66 is running System 7.6.1 and ColorSync is not installed. I have tried another VGA monitor (with an adapter) and it is also pink. So I guess it is the video portion of the motherboard. The question is why? Where exactly? Old capacitor? I have inspected the MOBO and couldn't find anything obviously wrong. Cheers, Marcio |

Hardware / Powermac 6100 with pink screen
January 11, 2010, 15:41 |
Hello all, I got a 6100/66 from eBay. Looks great and works; but when I connect my Apple Color Display the screen gets this pink hue, like when the cable is bad and it misses one color. It is not the monitor, it works fine on other Macs I tested. It is definitely something to do with the motherboard. I wonder if any of you have seen this problem before or knows how to fix it. many thanks indeed. Marcio Pocciotti |

Hardware / Color Classic startup problem
December 20, 2009, 21:08 |
This may also mean that your HD is not one of orignal Apple drives. Maybe an upgrade? In that case yoiu will need a diskette with some sort of formatting software, like HDT Primer 1.3.1 PE that will see your disk and be able to format it. My Color Classic has now a 4GB HP drive that never starts when the machine first starts, I have to give it a keyboard reset, then it will find the boot partition (CTRL+COMMAND+start key) Cheers, Marcio |

Operating System / Resolved!
December 11, 2009, 14:21 |
Hi all, This is what I did to resolve it: Downloaded the image file from the Software Guide link below to my Macbook Black; transfered to the Color Classic and expanded it (took more than 6 hours to do it on the CC). In parallel I created a CD on the Macbook Black on Toast hoping I could boot the CC with it (I have an external Apple CDROM). Didn't work. It created the HFS CD all right, but couldn't boot from it. Then I tried the floppy again and IT WORKED! I did nothing, really. After a long silence it started to work on its own and I could at least format the HD and transfer a 7.1 System Folder to it. Then I mounted the Disk Images from the CD on the Desktop and it installed to the HD. I'm a happy user of the original System that came with my CC. Cheers to all, Marcio |

New Member Welcome / Hello From Marcio Pocciotti
December 10, 2009, 18:50 |
Hello all, I'm very happy to have found this place. It is great! My name is Marcio, an Apple fan since the 80's. I'm rebuilding my 2 Color Classics with System 7 now, and have found they are still useful. Mostly for text and spreasheets, but there is something about these nice computers. I'm starting a personal project and I'll work on these two: writing a novel. I think the Colour Classic is the best computer ever. I also have some VAX from Digital's glorious days and a Newton Message Pad I bought in 2000 NEW! Wrapped! I live in Jundiai, a city outside Sao Paulo in Brazil. Not many Mac users around. Over the years I have accumulated quite a lot of Apple stuff. I'm looking now for a Colour Classic II, hard to find! Thanks for having me and will be glad to be of assistance to anybody. Take care, Marcio Pocciotti |

Operating System / Sysem 7.1 image for Color Classic
December 10, 2009, 18:01 |
Hello all, What a great website this is! I'm trying to install System 7.1 back into my Color Classic, but the floppy drive doesn't work anymore (can't read, write or initialize FDs). I downloaded the 7.1 image available here and also the Stuffit 5.5 available ehere, but when I try to unstuff the image file, Alladin sits there and the progress bar takes aaaaages to move a fraction of an inch. I suspect there's something wrong with that archive. Anybody havinf the same problem? Can someone provide me with a new System 7.1 image (I have the original disks). I'll be glad to help anybody with any needs they might have. Many thanks, Marcio Pocciotti |
