1 Operating System / Slow LocalTalk
February 12, 2009, 03:45
On my System 7 machines (9600/200, 190cs), LocalTalk is how I transfer files from the 9600 to the 190cs. For the longest time, I couldn't figure out why when copying files to the Powerbook, the Powermac would grind to a halt. I found an extension that solved that problem. Localtalk PCI.

It says in the readme that it "requires" OS 8.1. Not true. Use TomeViewer to extract it to the extensions folder. Check the readme for compatibility with your specific mac model.

If you use the serial ports a lot this will help.

I meant to say LocalTalk PCI.

I've tried this extension on my 9600/200 running 8.1, and LocalTalk seems MUCH faster. My whole system doesn't freeze when transferring files.

Even though the installer "requires" 8.1, if you use TomeViewer to copy it to the system folder, it should work.

Hope this helps.
