1 Operating System / 7.5.2-odd desktop behavior

Trashing the finder prefs solved the issues. Thanks for the suggestion. It's been way too long since I've had a System 7-class computer, and I've unfortunately forgotten some of the tricks like that one.

Anyone know where I can find one of these? I've wanted one ever since I first saw one...the last of the Powerbooks that aren't supposed to look like modern art.

As I recall System 7.5.2 is one of the buggiest system releases Apple did and you will probably want to consider an up date at your earliest convenience. You might try deleting the "Finder Preferences" located in the "Preyferences" folder inside your system folder. Rebuilding the desktop could be helpful as well. You can rebuild the desktop by holding down the option and command keys when booting the computer.

Tried rebuilding the desktop, didn't do anything. I'll try deleting the Finder prefs. System 7.5.2 is definitely buggy and I want to update ASAP.

Anybody know where I can get a copy of this on floppies? I'd like to put in on my recently acquired Powerbook 190 but the old floppies I have for the game seem to have become defective over the years.

I would like to upgrade or reinstall, but my newer machine does not have a floppy drive and the 190 doesn't have an ethernet card to access the internet.

I've got a Powerbook 190 that I'm playing around with (rescued it from being thrown out by my school). It's running System 7.5.2 and for some reason I can't seem to move the desktop icons to where I want them to go. If I move the trash can to the bottom of the screen, it moves back upon restart. The hard drive icon also won't move to its standard location slightly below the menu bar. The system only allows me to move it to a point where it's almost on top of the menu bar, but then it moves back on restart anyway. It's as if there's a grid on the desktop that has to be adhered to. I tried checking the Views control panel, but it crashes every time with an error dialog box that tells me that the font size must be between 17256 and 24080, which is total nonsense. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
