If you're using POPmail II or Mail drop with our SSL tunnel for old Macs, you really need to have a look at Baton Mail.

Baton Mail gives you the ability to use POP, IMAP and SMTP authentication with any email client on your Mac. Authentication is something that all modern e-mail servers require, but more or less none of the old clients for our favorite operating system supports it.
